Overview

Discover the untamed beauty of Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest at Farewell Harbour Lodge, where West Coast hospitality meets extraordinary wildlife encounters.

Nestled on 30 acres of forested land in the heart of the Broughton Archipelago, this family-owned lodge is at the epicentre of one of the most biologically active regions on the coast. Daily adventures by boat are led by passionate expert guides and take you deep into the surrounding fjords to witness the local wildlife – from foraging grizzly bears in pristine estuaries to pods of wild orca and humpback whales breaching in the Pacific waters.

Evenings at the lodge are spent in west coast-inspired comfort, savouring gourmet meals and enjoying engaging talks with staff and fellow guests. The main lodge features comfortable lounge and dining room, bar, and a large brick fireplace with windows overlooking the ocean. Enjoy views from the expansive wrap-around deck, the boardwalk along the shore, and the surrounding trails.

Guest rooms feature natural cedar and local art giving a relaxing ‘west coast’ feel. Choose from an oceanside guest room perched on the bluff, or a waterfront room situated on the floating dock down below.

All-inclusive packages range from 4 to 7 days at the lodge, with the option to add additional nights on Vancouver Island along with flights to/from Port Hardy. Full details on inclusions and how to get there are listed below.

Getting Here

This package starts and ends at Alder Bay RV Park & Marina on northern Vancouver Island. Travellers may arrive by car to Alder Bay with free parking provided, or by plane to Port Hardy Airport where a complimentary transfer will be provided to Alder Bay. From here, Farewell Harbour Lodge will provide a water taxi to their lodge on Berry Island.

We recommend travellers flying into Port Hardy to arrive a day early to avoid the possibility of morning flight delays (mainly due to fog). Your booking agent can arrange a pre-night hotel and airport transfer as needed. Farewell Harbour Lodge will then provide a shuttle to Alder Bay on Day 1 of the itinerary.

This flourished her passion for creating a more thoughtful relationship amongst tourism suppliers, local communities and tourists. With Mosaic Earth Travel, Emma is connecting her passions in regenerative tourism and travel.

Originally from Ontario, Emma’s various relocations exposed her to her favourite activities; including back-country camping and hiking, rollerblading, snowboarding, rock climbing and dreaming of her next adventure. Emma is based in Montreal, QC.
